About Placeivo
Placeivo helps people decide where they can afford to live, study or work abroad, using official numbers instead of guesses.
Why we built it
Most cost-of-living websites rely on prices typed in by visitors. Those numbers can be useful, but you rarely know who entered them, when, or for what kind of home. When you are planning a move, a study year abroad or a job offer in another country, you need figures you can check.
Placeivo takes a different approach. We use official statistics from bodies such as Eurostat, the UK Office for National Statistics and the World Bank, and we show the source and date next to every figure. If we do not have a verified number, we say Not yet verified rather than fill the gap.

- City profiles with monthly rent, disposable income, price level compared with Brussels, and where available median salary, each linked to its official source.
- Rent burden, a simple calculation that shows how heavy rent is compared with local incomes, explained step by step in our methodology.
- Clear labels for country-level indicators, so a national average is never presented as a city figure.
- Guides on how to read and compare city data without being misled.
We currently publish full profiles for 27 cities, mostly European capitals, and add a city only once it has at least three verified decision metrics. You can browse them on the cities page.
Who it is for
Placeivo is written for anyone weighing up a move: students choosing where to study, workers comparing job offers, families and retirees planning a new life abroad. We pay special attention to readers from countries that most relocation sites overlook, and we plan to add student budgets, visa income thresholds compared with real city costs, and “salary needed” pages, built on the same official data.
How we stay honest
- Every figure has a named source and a date. See our sources policy.
- Mistakes are fixed openly under our corrections policy.
- No company can pay to change our data or rankings.
