Corrections Policy

We want every figure on Placeivo to be right. When it is not, we fix it openly. This page explains how to report a problem and what we do next.
1. How to report an error
Email info@placeivo.com or use our contact page. It helps us most if you include:
- the page address (for example placeivo.com/cities/vienna/);
- the figure or sentence you think is wrong;
- what you believe is correct and, if you have it, a link to the official source.
2. What we do
- We check the figure against the original source listed in the page’s “Sources & dates” panel and against any source you send.
- If the figure is wrong, out of date, or labelled for the wrong place (for example a national number shown as a city number), we correct the data and the page.
- If we cannot confirm the right value quickly, we remove the figure and show Not yet verified until we can. We would rather show nothing than show something wrong.
- If a correction leaves a city page with fewer than three verified decision metrics, the page is taken out of search indexing until it has enough data again.
We aim to review reports within a few working days. Serious errors, such as a wrong currency or a figure that is off by a large amount, are dealt with first.
3. How corrections are recorded
When a value changes, the previous value is kept in our records with the date of the change, so we can trace what was shown and when. For material corrections to written content we will note the change on the page.
4. Updates are not corrections
Official statistics are revised and new releases replace old ones. When a figure changes because the source published new or revised data, that is a routine update, not an error. The date next to each figure shows which release it comes from.
5. What we cannot change
We do not change official figures because they seem too high or too low. If you think the original statistic is wrong, please also contact the publishing organisation. We will update our page once they revise it.
